Kibwana will be interviewed for the role on Monday, February 27 while Bishop Oginde will face the interviewing panel on Tuesday, February 28. The agreement was that some of the church leaders be given posts in the Kenya Kwanza government, a request Ruto affirmed during the campaigns. The President is said to have signed a memorandum of understanding with the church although the pact has never been made public. On the other hand, Oginde who is the retired presiding bishop of the Christ is the Answer Church (CITAM), was part of the key members of the clergy who supported Ruto in the presidential elections. His entry into the Kenya Kwanza team and those of other 10 political parties gave Ruto's team a national face at a time when Azimio had coalesced over 20 political parties. Kibwana would later formally join Kenya Kwanza on Augand joined Ruto's presidential petition legal team. Kibwana who ran for the Makueni Senate Seat on the Muungano Party ticket had before the polls held meetings with Ruto where they are said to have thawed their ties and agreed to team up. Kibwana, the retired Makueni governor, was initially affiliated to Raila Odinga's Azimio before crossing over to the Kenya Kwanza days after Ruto was declared President-elect.Īs the leader of the Muungano Party, Kibwana's decision to back President Ruto was crucial at a time when he was fighting a presidential petition in court against Raila. The two played key roles in the Kenya Kwanza presidential victory and because of their close proximity to the president, they are considered as the favourites for the EACC chairperson post.
